Defying longer odds than those offered on Michael Howard winning the election, former record producer Donny Marchand is launching a bit for pop stardom... at 65.

The one-time Shakin' Stevens collaborator and Brooklyn, NY native has experienced a spectacular career in the music industry across five decades and three continents, including writing some songs for Roger Daltry, James Last and Wilson Pickett, and producing records by Gene Vincent and The Wild Angels. Now he's decided to go it alone with politicised debut single The Ice is Melting. More bizarrely - it's ace! And we believe it deserves to be heard!

As Playmusic was going to press, we only had a copy of the single, but with an album due out next month expect to hear a lot more about Donny in these pages. In the meantime, you can show support by contacting him directly via e-mail. And no, it doesn't sound anything like Shakin' Stevens."

Playmusic Magazine (July 2005)

Last month we brought you news of 65 year old Donny Marchand and his pursuit of a pop career with single The Ice is Melting. This months Donny is stepping up his game with the release of his debut album, Dinosaurs Don't Eat People. And we think it's only fair that Donny Gets his day in the charts.

While other bands with new releases have pluggers to help them garner attention, one time Shakin' Stevens producer Donny is doing it all himself. Should his music be denied attention just because he's older than your average pop star? We say no!

Indeed as you can see from the photo above, Donny is actually in better shape than most of the Playmusic staff. He's certainly more attractive than the editor ater a heavy deadline. For that reason and more besides, we're demanding Justice for Donny, and hopefully a few record sales for him as well.

You can reach the great man himself and pledge support by emailing the address below. In the meantime, look out for more Donny related news in future issues!
